Wawa Chain Plans Second Port Orange Location

PORT ORANGE — Wawa Inc. is looking to open two new convenience store/gas stations here, the first in Volusia and Flagler counties.

The Wawa, Pa.-based company recently signed a ground lease on a 1.85-acre site at the southeast corner of Dunlawton Avenue and Yorktowne Boulevard, said Charles Lichtigman, CEO of Daytona Beach-based Charles Wayne Properties, who owns the property along with Paul Holub of Holub Development in Ormond Beach. The corner lot is one of five parcels on a 10-acre tract next to Altamira Village shopping Center.

Wawa is also interested in the property at 1031 Dunlawton Blvd. The city in June approved a Wawa-proposed tree removal plan that included demolishing the current Asian Fusion buffet restaurant.

Wawa official could not be reached for comment. They have talked to the city about developing both locations, but site plans have not yet been submitted for either, said Tim Burman, city planner.

Wawa operates 570 convenience stores primarily in the upper Middle Atlantic states. About 200 sell gasoline.

Wawa opened its first Florida location in July 2012 and now has at least 14 stores between the Orlando and Tampa areas.
